Productivity and speed in UNIX/Linux.

Besides listed in part "common" of this document (it should be met first), in UNIX/Linux OS you can stop all not using services. The productivity and performance speed can be higher when unnecessary services have stoped. The classic command to disable service is chkconfig. Linux has command ntsysv, which has text window interface:

The minimal set of services is:
  • crond - schedule (chronometer) table
  • network
  • syslog - system book-log
  • If you change hardware very often leave alive -
  • kudzu - auto plug-in for hardware
  • If you use GUI (graphic mode) you will need -
  • xfs - X-file system
  • The next services will be helpful if you use printer (on this computer :) -
  • cups
  • cups-config-daemon
  • cups-lpd
  • To get help about any other service - push F1
